Since the age of 11 my father used to own a few properties and with home owning comes allot of renovations.  So my father took us to the homes when he would get renovations done.  I remember how some of the homes and apartments used to look and would say, "dad this place needs to look better".  He hired a painter and when he brought us back the following week to check on the work being done I was in awe on how a simple paint job can make a house your home.
